Taco Rijssemus has been appointed CEO of All3Media Germany, one of the largest independent TV production groups in the country, it was announced today.
Rijssemus will continue to lead All3Media’s Dutch production companies idtv and ICP and will also run All3Media in Belgium.
The appointment of Rijssemus comes as Markus Schäfer who has run All3Media’s German business and overseen idtv since 2015, has decided to step down as CEO.
Rijssemus will take over the role from September 1 and will lead All3Media Germany’s multi-award winning production companies which include filmpool entertainment, filmpool fiction, The Fiction Syndicate, south & browse, Tower Productions, Bon Voyage Films, and digital business Little Dot Studios.
The German group’s long running hit programmes include daily soaps Berlin – Tag und Nacht and Köln 50667, for RTLZWEI, as well as docu-crime show Auf Streife on Sat. 1. There have also been strong ratings recently on Das Erste for crime series Tatort Münster, which brought in 13.8million viewers, 8.2million saw Sunday night drama strand Polizeiruf 110 Rostock while an all-time high audience of 7.2million viewers watched Kommissar Dupin. On Sat.1, 2.3million watched Das Große Backen and 5million viewers tuned in to ZDF for documentary series Terra X.
Rijssemus became CEO of Amsterdam-based idtv in 2017, joining from broadcaster KRO-NCRV, and has since built the business into one of the largest, and fastest growing, independent production companies in the Netherlands. He will continue to oversee the idtv business in his new role.
Rijssemus said: “Markus and I have had a very successful partnership over the last five years, and I am very much looking forward to my new role. The German market is incredibly vibrant with huge opportunity and has so many talented content creators. Creating the excellent content, for which All3Media is known, in Holland, and now also in Germany, is more than a job for me – it is a real passion. I can’t wait to start.”
Jane Turton, All3Media CEO, said: “Taco is a strong creative leader who has transformed idtv since taking over as chief executive and I am delighted that he is taking on the role of CEO of All3Media Germany, one of our largest and most important businesses. I also want to extend a huge thank you to Markus who has done an enormous amount to build the business with a fabulous team of creatives and talented executives. I have really enjoyed working together and wish him every success for the future.”
Schäfer said: “After 17 years at All3Media, I’ve decided to take on new challenges outside the company and am looking forward to doing so. This step is made much easier by knowing that our business is in the best hands with Taco Rijssemus, with whom I’ve worked closely in recent years. After his successful activities in the Netherlands, I’m confident that he will also take All3Media forward in Germany. I would like to thank my team, without whom the successful development of our companies would not have been possible, as well as my colleagues in our parent company in the UK. My special thanks go to Group CEO Jane Turton for the fantastic collaboration and for placing her trust in me. With her support, we have shaped the company and moved it forward in Germany and the Netherlands.”
Under Schäfer’s management, All3Media Germany has strengthened its market position by acquiring the production label south & browse and adding The Fiction Syndicate, Bon Voyage Films, and Little Dot Studios to the German group. Appointing Taco Rijssemus to the role of CEO of idtv led to the turnaround in the Netherlands, with the business being transformed into an entertainment company in great demand producing high-quality factual entertainment and show formats in the Netherlands.
